Training

Improve satellite and ground-based data utilization

Satellites offer advanced capabilities for monitoring Earth’s atmosphere. The number of available sensors and the amount of data available makes it possible. This vast ocean of information can be overwhelming even for experienced users.  New users of satellite data can find the process of learning how to use this information slow, frustrating and overwhelming. It can take months to get started and years to learn how to use the data effectively.

GRASP Earth offers training workshops to private, public and non-profit organizations who want their personnel to be able to efficiently use satellite remote sensing data for measuring particulates or trace gases in the Earth’s atmosphere. We focus on teaching skills so that users can go on to independently use the data to solve problems and answer operational questions.

Our team has over 30 years of experience using and training others in how to make the best use of satellite remote sensing data. We pass on our experience and acquired knowledge to provide more than just a technical training. We focus on teaching skills, so that users can continue to develop their abilities to use satellite and ground data to solve mission critical problems.

GRASP ACE Summer School team Aug 2019, Granada

We teach your team members how to answer the following questions

How do I find out what data is available?

Where can I find and how good is the quality of the data?

How do I understand the data?

What tools are there to find and use the data?

So that your organization can answer operational questions like

What type of particulates or gases are being observed?

In what amounts and how good is our data?

Can we see trends over time?

How do we determine sources and sinks of observed emissions?

Our workshops combine

Lectures

Our workshops feature in-person and web-based lectures that provide essential theoretical knowledge and insights into atmospheric data and satellite remote sensing, laying a strong foundation for practical application.

Hands-on activities

Engage in practical, hands-on activities designed to reinforce learning, develop skills in data analysis, and apply theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios, ensuring comprehensive understanding.

Case studies

Analyze real-world scenarios through detailed case studies, enhancing your ability to apply learned concepts, solve complex problems, and retain crucial skills through practical application.

Our Introductory workshop offers a 2-day comprehensive introduction to atmospheric data. We offer two options: one focusing solely on particulate products from NASA, covering monitoring and applications; another one including both particulate and trace gas products. The first day in each track provides a solid foundation, while the second day expands into trace gases for a more rounded understanding. Perfect for beginners, this workshop equips participants with essential knowledge to effectively use these data resources.

This Intermediate workshop offers an in-depth exploration of atmospheric data over 3-5 days. Attendees can select a track focused solely on particulate products from NASA and European satellites, or a combined track that includes an additional day dedicated to trace gases. With hands-on case studies assembled and presented by participants, this program enhances practical skills and deepens understanding, making it perfect for those looking to advance their expertise in atmospheric science.

The Advanced Workshop offers the possibility of delving into sophisticated data techniques over 3-5 days. Participants can focus on using GRASP tools to create specialized products or integrating satellite and in-situ data. This workshop provides an in-depth exploration of advanced methods for data analysis and product development, equipping you to tackle complex environmental challenges. Ideal for experienced professionals, it enhances skills and leverages cutting-edge tools for innovative applications in atmospheric science.

The Custom Workshop offers the possibility to design a program tailored to your needs. You’ll choose the length of days and the specific content to be covered, allowing us to create a workshop that aligns perfectly with your objectives. Whether you need focused training on particular data types, advanced techniques, or a mix of topics, this flexible option ensures the workshop meets your team’s unique requirements and enhances your expertise effectively.

Training activities for all levels

GRASP-Earth offers customized training workshops to help organizations use satellite remote sensing data effectively. Programs are tailored to all levels, with pre-workshop online content (1–3 hours) for intermediate and advanced sessions, plus optional post-workshop case studies for skill reinforcement. These hands-on exercises, selected by instructors or users, help solidify key concepts. Workshops cover everything from basic principles to advanced data analysis and tool use. Each session aligns with your goals to ensure practical, relevant learning. Book a call with our team to assess your needs and plan your training.
