The Spheroids model experiment
Polar nephelometry is an in-situ measurement technique used to study how light is scattered by small particles, such as aerosols, in the atmosphere. By providing near-real-time observations of aerosol optical properties, it plays an important role in atmospheric research, air quality monitoring, and climate studies
This interactive experiment allows users to simulate measurements from a polar nephelometer using a single-scattering model. Participants can modify aerosol types and adjust the instrument’s geometric configuration to investigate how these factors influence light-scattering patterns. Through hands-on exploration, users gain valuable insights into aerosol behavior and the complex interactions between atmospheric particles and light.
The experiment is based on technologies developed by GRASP-Earth, which also designs and manufactures its own line of in-situ instruments, including polar nephelometers.
