Aerosol monitoring for a better understanding of Climate impact from municipalities and industries
Despite the fact that only 1% of the world’s population lives in areas where WHO guidelines for air quality are met (WHO, 2021), in recent years we have seen how smart cities and municipalities have significantly reduced aerosol emissions in many regions over the globe. The wording about “emissions exposing hidden warming” might confuse the fact that it is actually reducing certain types of aerosols that “unmasks” greenhouse warming; and more: this shift also impacts rainfall and extreme weather, highlighting the need for cities to adopt integrated climate strategies that address aerosols alongside broader climate goals.
